As the past months, we have been exposed with global issues such as HIV/AIDS (March 2004) and Children and Youth Sexual Abuse (April 2004). Now we have come to a global topic too...a very global whereas we have to understand and make a research, also penetrate into the issue: The Poverty And Globalization.

|
REALLY A MAJOR ISSUE!! |
For your information, this is the definition of poverty:
Poverty is the lack of basic necessities that all human beings must have: food and water, shelter, education, medical care, security, etc. A multi-dimensional issue, poverty exceeds all social, economic, and political boundaries. As such, efforts to alleviate poverty must be informed of a variety of different factors.
-Definition by Takingitglobal.org-
Billions of people across the globe in both the developed and developing countries live in conditions of disease and abject poverty. Even with the many programs to alleviate poverty, little has changed. Many of the political and economic elite view the horrors of poverty to be a natural element of the economic system and are efficient to boot.
The hypocrisy of it all is that leaders in the developed world profess their commitment to poverty eradication, through growth oriented strategies of capital accumulation, privatization, and investment but none are willing to admit that these strategies may be causing the poverty they are committed to eradicating. Few economic pundits realize the prosperity of the western societies have as much to do with history as their current economic policies.
They refuse to acknowledge the heavy role the state played in stabilizing and stimulation pf the economy in the early to mid 1900s, where states protected their industries until they were competitive. Yet, they fully support immediate execution of current neo-liberal economic policies as the only right way. Even with mounting evidence of the contrary developing states are punished if they seek out their own policies to develop that are not on par with Western ideas.
LET'S US HOLDING HANDS WITH ME -------------- STOP GLOBAL POVERTY AND SUPPORT THE TRUE GLOBALIZATION!
